Caitlin Gold Author Bio
My name is Caitlin Gold and I am currently enrolled in The College of New Jersey as an art education major. I was born and raised in Mahwah New Jersey, located in northern Jersey, Bergen County. I attended Mahwah High School and graduated in 2011. My summers are spent poolside, guarding lives and getting tan. I also teach swim lessons and coordinate parties at New York Sports Club. Someday, I hope to be either a middle school or high school teacher, or maybe even a college professor. One day, I will mold young minds into creative masterpieces.
Shepard Fairey’s artwork is an excellent example of a successful artist with a cause, and for this I sincerely envy and applaud him at the same time. I genuinely feel that Fairey’s work has definitely gotten the exact attention it needed in order to get the public’s attention. He targeted a younger audience with a trendy and interesting clothing line and successfully won the group over. Even if kids who buy and wear his apparel don’t understand the complexity of the words they wear, there’s still a chance someone who sees it will. He successfully created walking billboards and managed to make money at the same time. As I grow into adulthood, I am beginning to take a more practical stance on art rather than just an aesthetic one. I believe in creating art with a purpose or a cause. Fairey’s work is both aesthetically interesting and meaningful; that is a knockout in my book. The government is very relevant to my life considering I am a young adult currently enrolled in college to become an art teacher. This is the best time for my generation to be getting involved in the government and self-expression because we are young and full of fiery passion. Young energy should be put to good use in order to benefit a whole. Fairey’s big idea is to lessen unnecessary war funds in order to help other governmental funding areas, such as education; this is huge. I feel I speak for almost every college student when I state that college is getting to be ridiculously priced in our country. Even though I attend the cheapest college that was on my application list, it is still currently making a huge dent in my hard earned savings, which has accumulated over the past five summers. Our country is also in serious need of change for our resource usage. Funds put into resource conservation would be much more useful than unnecessary war funds. I sincerely hope the future holds more practical government money usage in order to benefit the country as a whole. I also sincerely hope I will be successful in creating young thinkers as a future educator in order to create future activists.
