Fairey Questions the Government
As seen by viewers, Shepard Fairey’s big idea in his artwork seems to revolve around familiar words and images relating to government. Shepard Fairey explores the questioning of politics through his art, making a lot of his prints look like posters promoting peace, saying words like “War is Over” or “Make Art Not War”. Some of his work also pokes at government saying things like “More Militerry Less Skools” or “In Lesser Gods We Trust”. A lot of Fairey’s work is to make people think about our government and how they view their surroundings and the relationship with their environment based on that. He explores this theme of government to mainly spark curiosity and to have his viewers feel a response to his work that is relatable to now.
